Manastash
Manastash is a homestead development of 29 acres in the Manastash Canyon, adjacent to the Kittitas Valley and just outside of Ellensburg, Wash. The building site occupies a south-facing slope, several hundred feet above Manastash Creek and the canyon floor.
Fully surrounded by public land, the project respectfully seeks to minimize the physical delineation of public and private property, maintaining a natural and cohesive whole for the north side of the canyon.
Manastash is being developed in phases: envisioned to initially serve as a weekend retreat for a Portland family, with an eye toward expansion and permanent residency over time. While Master Planning is an essential part of the process, the project also embraces the idea of organic and incremental growth, allowing each phase to be informed by what’s come before it.
The materials and forms provide connection to the natural surroundings as well as referencing the archetypes of nearby agricultural, forest, and ranch structures.
The first phase, consisting of cabin and tractor shed, is currently under construction.
