Orcas

Orcas is the selective refinement and enhancement of an existing contemporary PNW island residence, to suit the activities of the current owners. The new solutions both complement and extend the existing building language and material vocabulary, while respecting the original, meticulously crafted architectural composition.

The project consists of: a new barn for storage of cars and equipment with attached covered carport/porch, creation of a bunkhouse within a former purpose-built gallery volume, and addition of windows and interior improvements to the artist studio.

The existing architecture provided a foundational palette and architectural forms to extend through the project. Select new materials, finishes, and textures were developed to harmonize with the old and highlight the new.

The project was designed in 2019 and completed in 2021.
